Why I Made This App (v1.0.1)

With fuel prices going through the roof at the moment I guess the question answers itself. I don't normally release an app unfinished or unpolished but I think it's necessary to make this available as quickly as possible. More features are being added but as basic as it is right now, it does the job of saving you money and that's what matters. And of course it's free.

I currently update the fuel price database twice a day but plan to make it update every ten minutes. At the last count there's 7,498 petrol stations in the database but if you notice any missing it's likely to be because their data failed my data validity checks. More on this later.

Location Services

For this app to show the nearest petrol stations it obviously needs to know where you are. You'll need to ensure location services are ON for your browser and device. If it can't locate you it'll tell you and just default to Central London, so at least you can see how the app works and what you're missing out on. If you have an iPhone, chances are it'll know where you are already. With Android you may need to turn location on in your setings. It depends on your phone as to exactly how. I'm working on adding a map so you can drag a pin to where you are, but for now it replies on location services, which is much better as it's automatic.

Install App

Although you can use this app directly at fuel.Jason-King.co.uk you can also install it as an app on ANY phone, tablet or laptop. On an iPhone click the share icon at the bottom of the Safari browser then "Add to Home Screen". Android is similar but you may find the install icon in the browser address bar, in Chrome for example.

Data Source

As of the 2nd February 2026 under the Motor Fuel (Open Data) Regulations 2025 all petrol stations in the UK have a legal obligation to inform the government Fuel Finder service of a change of prices within 30 minutes of the change. All fuel price data in my app is provided by the UK Government Fuel Finder service, which contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Disclaimer

Back to the data validity I mentioned earlier, some of the petrol stations report their fuel prices at under 2p a litre and some at over £20 a litre, oh and some put their location as in the middle of the ocean, so I removed these from the database as they're clearly incorrect. If they correct their data they'll go back in but I'm afraid I can't be responsible for incorrect data if the petrol station staff are reporting incorrect data, or just slow doing it. The government will be tightening up on this so the data will become more accurate and up to date with time.

Cookies

I guess I should declare that this app uses a single browser cookie too, to store your chosen fuel type, so the next time you use the app it searches on that fuel type automatically.

Going Forward

This app is a work in progress and if it's popular I'll be adding lots to it, including maps. If you find it useful and it saves you some money then feel free to Share it with your friends. Also if you find any errors or have any comments then you can email me at: Jason@Jason-King.co.uk
